Board of Regents President Mark Ojakian spoke on WNPR’s “Where We Live” show Monday morning about the AAUP Contract Proposals.  He made it clear that the BOR’s proposals are still on the table.

Although one “drafting” error had been corrected, Ojakian is still demanding “flexibility” to fire tenured faculty members, to move faculty to different schools, and to close down departments in order to create “efficiencies” and “consolidate” the system.  He wants faculty to “sacrifice” so the BOR can save money.

Ojakian also called for faculty to “back down” — to tone down the “rhetoric” and stop our rallies, protests, posters, and email campaigns.  We see no reason to back down.  It is imperative that ALL faculty members work to support our contract campaign and show the BOR that our opposition is not just hot air. We cannot stop these proposals without everyone’s help.

Here are three things you need to do now:

1. Come to the December 3 rally at the BOR.  The rally starts at 9:30am.  Buses will leave ECSU, SCSU, and WCSU at 8am and CCSU at 9am.  If you would like a seat let the AAUP office know:  Feel free to drive to 61 Woodland St. on your own.  Bring friends and family.  Tell students about the rally and encourage them to go.  If you cannot come to the rally, get someone to go in your place.

2. Go to the website and use the links provided to send emails or make calls to the BOR/legislators and express your opposition to the proposals.

3. Sign our petition (which we will present to the BOR on Dec. 3) and get others to sign it as well.
